Record Observations
The Moment of Observation
When the scheduled moment arrives, you will receive a notification (if you have them enabled) or you will see the observation marked as "pending" on the calendar.
Goal: record each observation in under 10 seconds
Recording Flow
You receive the notification
You look at the worker
You tap the task
Recorded!
Recording Screen
When you open a pending observation, you will see:
Scheduled observation
Assembler A - 10:34
What are they doing?
Steps to Record
- Identify the task: What are they doing at that instant?
- Tap the button: Select the matching task
- (Optional) Add a note: If there is something unusual
- (Optional) Rating: If you use a performance rating
- Confirm: The observation is saved automatically
๐ก Tip: Observe first
Observe before looking at the phone. The observation must capture what the worker was doing at the scheduled moment, not after they see you with the phone.
Edit an Observation
Made a mistake? You can edit:
- Go to the calendar and find the observation (marked in green)
- Tap to open it
- Select a different task
- The observation is updated
Missed Observations
If you could not make an observation on time:
- It stays marked as "Pending"
- You can record it later with a note explaining the delay
- Or leave it unrecorded (does not invalidate the study if there are only a few)
โ ๏ธ Completion percentage
A study is valid if you complete at least 85% of the observations. Missing a few is normal and acceptable.
Track Your Progress
After each observation, you will see updated:
- Progress bar: % of observations completed
- Counter: X of Y observations
- Colour on calendar: Green = recorded, Grey = pending
